What is sender score lookup?
SenderScore is a reputation metric published by Validity that rates email-sending IP addresses on a scale of 0 to 100. Mailbox providers — including Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo — use reputation signals like SenderScore as inputs when deciding whether to deliver your email to the inbox or route it to spam.
This tool queries the SenderScore index for any IPv4 address and returns the current score, rating category, 30-day score trend, volume tier and Return Path certification status — the same signals deliverability engineers check before a campaign send. How it works
- 1Enter your sending IP.Type or paste the IPv4 address of your mail server — find it in your email headers under the
Received:line. - 2Query the SenderScore index.The tool submits your IP to the Validity API and retrieves the current reputation data from the SenderScore database.

Why it matters
A sender score below 70 is a leading indicator of deliverability problems. Mailbox providers weigh IP reputation alongside domain authentication when filtering inbound mail, so a falling score can mean the difference between landing in the inbox and being silently discarded.
For financial services senders — banks, wealth managers, insurers and fintechs — email is a primary customer channel. A compromised sending IP can affect transactional notifications, account alerts and regulatory communications at scale. Regular reputation monitoring lets you catch abuse, warm-up mistakes or shared-IP contamination before they affect open rates.

Common ways to use this tool
- Campaign pre-flight check. Run a reputation lookup before a large send to confirm your IP score hasn't dipped since the last campaign.
- Shared IP monitoring. Track SenderScore on shared sending IPs to detect when another tenant's poor practices are dragging down your deliverability.
- Warm-up validation. Confirm your score is climbing at the expected pace during a new IP warm-up sequence.
- Incident triage. When open rates drop unexpectedly, check SenderScore first to rule out IP reputation as the root cause.
- Infrastructure compliance audit. Validate IP reputation as part of periodic email infrastructure reviews for financial services compliance teams.
05 · Interpretation
What to check in the result
- Score below 70. Scores under 70 indicate poor reputation with many mailbox providers. Investigate recent bounce rates and complaint spikes immediately and pause high-volume sends until the score recovers.
- Rating: Insufficient data. A new or low-volume IP has no reputation history yet. Ramp sending volume gradually over 4–6 weeks to build a score before any bulk campaign.
- Rating: Poor or Very Poor. These categories correlate with elevated spam complaint rates. Audit your unsubscribe handling, suppress inactive addresses and review list acquisition before sending further.
- Declining 30-day trend. A steadily falling score is more alarming than a single bad day. Cross-reference the trend with your send calendar to identify which campaigns triggered the drop.
- Volume tier mismatch. Sending at High or Very High volume with a score below 80 suggests list quality or authentication issues. Check SPF, DKIM and DMARC alignment and review your suppression list.
- Certified: No on high-volume IP. Return Path Certification unlocks whitelisting at major providers. If your IP sends at scale, investigate whether your sending practices meet Validity's certification criteria.
