Used when File group is Common: extension, file name or file type.

Used when File group is Generated: file extension or file name.

Used when File group is Path: directory path or file path.

Optional extension for common file-name output. Do not include a leading dot.

Optional MIME type for file-extension output.

Optional exact extension count for file-name output. Use 1, 2 or 3.

Use the same numeric seed to reproduce the same output.

01 · Definition

What is dev fixture generator?

A dev fixture generator creates synthetic file names, file paths, MIME types, cron expressions, network-interface names and semantic-version values for tests. It helps developers, QA engineers and platform teams build repeatable test data generator inputs without copying production paths, scheduler settings or infrastructure records.

The tool above sends your count, locale, seed and method options to the Spotzee Extended API, then renders returned systems[] records. Use profile for expanded system fixture records, or choose a file, cron, network or semver method when one field type is under test. Read the in-depth dev fixture generator guide for endpoint options, response fields and fixture design notes.

02 · Process

How it works

  1. 1Enter a count.Type the number of developer fixture records to generate, from 1 to 100.
  2. 2Choose a method.Pick profile for expanded records or choose file, cron, network-interface or semantic-version output.
  3. 3Set method options.Use extension, MIME type, extension-count, interface and cron controls when the selected upstream method accepts them.
  4. 4Add a seed.Set a numeric seed when a random data generator output must repeat after a failing test.
  5. 5Generate fixtures. The server validates your options, forwards a form-encoded request to /generic/data/generate/system and renders the returned records.

03 · Risk

Why it matters

Developer fixtures are usually small until they break something important. A file upload parser, cron scheduler, MIME router or version comparison test can pass for months against one hand-written value, then fail when production sends an unexpected extension, path shape or semantic version.

A dev fixture generator online tool gives you varied sample values with repeatable seeds. You can test UI wrapping, import rules, scheduler parsing, MIME handling and semver comparison without embedding production infrastructure details in lower-control systems.

04 · Use cases

Common ways to use this tool

  • File parser tests. Generate file names, extensions, paths and file types for upload, export and import validation.
  • Cron scheduler QA. Use it as a cron generator or cron expression generator when testing schedule parsing and display paths.
  • MIME routing fixtures. Create MIME type and file-extension pairs for content-type validation, API imports and attachment workflows.
  • Network UI states. Generate network-interface names with selected interface type and schema controls for infrastructure screens.
  • Version comparison tests. Use semver output when a form, parser or release workflow needs semantic-version fixture values.

05 · Interpretation

What to check in the result

  • Count outside 1 to 100. The API accepts up to 100 system records per request. For larger datasets, call the endpoint again.
  • Leading dot in extension. Enter txt, not .txt, when common file-name output needs a specific extension.
  • Invalid MIME type input. Use type/subtype format such as application/json when file-extension output should resolve from a MIME type.
  • Conflicting extension counts. Use either an exact extension count or a minimum/maximum range. Do not set both at once.
  • Seed not repeating. The seed must be numeric. Keep the same count, locale, method and options when fixtures need stable output.
  • Assuming production validity. Generated values are synthetic sample data. Do not treat them as verified infrastructure records or production scheduler settings.
